Tusc Art Guild welcomes renowned artist; prepares for upcoming shows
Being a multi-talented artist, a university art professor, teacher, and world traveler should be more than enough to fill any man with pride. But for Yan Sun, art director at the Muskingum University in New Concord, his most prized possession is his United States citizenship.
During his many travels, his portrait subjects and acquaintances have referred to him as being Chinese. He will quickly reply with a polite, No, I am an American. The Tuscarawas County Art Guild members and guests were highly impressed with the interesting and colorful slide show, featuring the artists vast variety of oil paintings, at their October meeting.
Sun invited the members of the art guild to show their work at the proposed new art gallery at the Muskingum University, in 2013. He will be showing his vast array of artwork at the Riffe Gallery in Columbus, beginning Nov. 2.
President Marcie Dryden, of Tuscarawas, announced there was a Peoples Choice Award contest during the Art Guilds Fall Art Show at the New Towne Mall. Ballots were provided for the public to vote for their favorite artist. She also noted those members participating in the annual Fall & Winter Art Show at the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts, should have their paintings there by Nov. 7. The Artists Reception is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 26, from 2-4 p.m. This event is open to the public with all guests welcome.
The art guilds election of officers will take place at their Nov. 15 meeting. The president was open to nominations from those members present. Program chairman, Harley Sefert, of New Philadelphia, has scheduled Michael Lehr, an artisan baker and owner of Flat Top Bakery in New Philadelphia, and also, John Dupray, an artist who works in oils and water colors, for the Guilds November meeting.
Refreshments were served by Maggie Sevier and Arlene Dusini of New Philadelphia. The Tuscarawas County Art Guild meets the third Tuesday of each month at the Center for the Arts, and is open to all visual artists and photographers of any skill level, working in any medium.
