Memorial Day is behind us, but the meaning forever lingers. We have so many freedoms in this country, and daily I see them abused or ignored. Our men and women in uniform have fought and died, sacrificing their own freedoms for ours. Remember and honor them but also lift up their families in prayer. They are the ones that suffer the loss daily.

Well we didn’t draw any tags in Kentucky. We still have a chance for the moose lottery in Maine, even if it is a long shot. We are going on a major hunt in Florida soon. Well, hunting doesn’t always mean you have to shoot something or hang them on the wall.

You see we’re going back to Disney World. This time we’re going with our oldest daughter and her husband along with their two boys, age 5 and 4. We’ve been there four times before and have enjoyed it a lot each time, but this time is different.

You see the first two times were with our kids, once when they were little and then when they were older. The other two times were with the West Holmes marching band.

And yes, each of those trips were fantastic and enjoyed but always with a sense of time schedules and making sure they enjoyed themselves, keeping an eye on them so they didn’t get lost in the crowd (ours, not the high school kids). We are going to watch the two grandsons for a day to let our daughter and husband have some time together also.

But this one is for us to go when and where we please: a good “Someday” vacation.
So in a sense we are hunting. I hope we’ll see some deer (Bambi) and maybe some domestic bear (Winnie), probably some rabbits (Thumper and Brer) and even some ducks (Donald and Daisy). If we have trouble finding them, we can always track them with dogs (Pluto, Goofy and my favorite, Percy from Pocahontas). We could even call on the help of some Dalmatians.

There are a few more of the local species we hope to find: some fox (Honest John and Robin Hood), raccoon (Meeko) and skunk (Flower). We might even do some fishing (Nemo and Flounder).

Of course we can’t forget our friends from the jungle: lions (Simba, Mufasa and Scar) and tigers (Tigger and Shere Khan) and bears (Balou). Oh my! (Where have we heard that one?)

Of course I didn’t forget the main characters we will look for. We also want to mouse hunt, not moose, mouse. Mickey and Minnie will forever be the symbols Walt Disney created them to be.

A magical place where people young and old can leave their troubles behind for just a while and experience a world of fantasy and adventure, to share the joy of being a kid and witnessing some of the world’s best creations from imagination. As we plan each adventure, I sometimes find myself counting the months, the weeks and the days until the next trip.

Sometimes I forget myself, the philosophy behind this column called “Someday.” With the creation of social media, we are instantly aware of those within our circle who have or know of someone who has a medical problem. This temple we call the human body was not created to last forever. God gave it to us as a vehicle to use for a short time until we can join with him, if we so believe.

Live every day to its fullest. Wake each morning with a plan to make today special. Touch a life of someone around you with a word of encouragement. End each evening with a prayer of thanks.

I so love to hear the stories you share and pray God will grant you many more wonderful experiences.

Taryn and I have been blessed with many adventures and God willing, many more.
