One look at Heywood Banks, who sports long flowing silvery locks, an ever-present grin and a massive ornery streak, and someone may be apt to think to themselves, “That guy looks hilarious.”

Well, they would be correct.

On Saturday, Sept. 30, the Duncan Theater & Event Center will host a special night with comedian Heywood Banks, comedian, singer, songwriter, poet and punster, and above all, someone who has brought giggles, guffaws and laughter to many.

Banks’ rollicking tunes may well have been the very first to conjure up “ear worms,” those tunes you listen to and, once they’re in your head, they are stuck in there forever.

Banks has sung his way into the hearts of millions of fans worldwide, and his zany sense of humor combined with his impeccable comedic timing and silky smooth voice set the stage for an evening of good, old-fashioned belly-busting laughs from start to finish.

No topic is off limits for Banks, whose playlist includes unique songs like “Toast,” “Other People’s Bad Habits,” “One Eye Love,” “The Cat Got Dead” and “Trauma to the Groin,” just a few of the nearly countless gems Banks has produced in his illustrious career.

Banks has been a longtime favorite of my wife and me since I first heard his hilarious song “Toast” on the Bob and Ray radio show. That day was Aug. 25, 2015, and I know that because I recorded the song off the radio onto my phone and couldn’t wait to play it for my wife when I got home.

The guy was singing and playing a toaster like a drum, and the lyrics were pure gold. I figured anyone with a wit that clever, who can actually sing and make people laugh while doing it, is going to be special in my book.

So when I found out Banks was coming to Killbuck, I was super-hyped because I never figured someone that has gained so much love from so many fans around the nation would ever come to this area.

Yet here he comes, providing us with an evening of revelry on Saturday, Sept. 30.

As for his notoriety, Banks has been featured in Rolling Stone Magazine and People Magazine. He won first place in the Johnnie Walker Comedy Search Contest. A regular guest on the “Bob & Tom” radio show, as well as appearing on late night talk shows, A&E’s “An Evening at the Improv” and much more, Banks’ unique style of entertainment has left fans in stitches.

And here’s the real winning formula for promoting Banks and his humor: People need to laugh more.

I understand you can’t be silly all the time and there are very serious moments in life, but amid all of the struggles, problems, pain and chaos in the world today, we all need a little release where we can push all of that aside and simply relax and laugh.

That’s what Heywood Banks brings to the table, just good, old-fashioned belly laughs, a kind of medicine that can heal a lot of souls, at least for a while.

Tickets are on sale now and are available at www.theduncantheater.com. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m., with emcee Joy Boc. Duncan Theater is located at 110 Main St. in Killbuck.
