Spring in Ohio can be an iffy thing

Though currently under a bit of the white stuff, there is green growth popping up in some of our gardens. Unfortunately, some of that green growth is of the weed variety. Those weeds will remain only until warmer temperatures allow us to get outside to yank those invaders out of our gardens and replace them with pretty plants.
Spring in Ohio is an iffy thing. One day the sky is blue, the sun bright and the temperatures warm. The next day we can have snow showers and temperatures below freezing. If we could just convince Mother Nature to help spring arrive early and stay put, we gardeners and our gardens would be so happy.
So would the local wildlife. Yesterday a chipmunk sitting on a rock in our snow-covered yard seemed to glare at me as if I was to blame for the cold and snow. I know just how that little creature feels. It makes us feel better to have someone to blame for our discomfort. By the calendar we know spring is coming, but by the weather we know spring is so far losing her battle to displace winter. Wish there was something we could do to help her. Winter is a tough, old season, and he likes to stick around.
Eventually, winter will be chased out and spring will arrive in all her glory. Happy day! We have chosen the plants to go into a new garden, along with flower seeds and perhaps a few blooming bushes. Once the flowers are blooming, the grass is lush and the mud has dried up, we, our house, our yard and that chipmunk will be so happy. And we and our house will celebrate not having to deal with mud-encrusted dog paws.
