A hint of spring is in the air

While treating our dogs to a romp in the yard this morning, I glanced at our gardens and was thrilled to see green. A little early flowering plant actually boasted a blossom. The bulbs were pushing their new green growth out through the mud and leaves. It was a wonderful sight and gave promise that winter isn’t forever.

Of course my brain knows winter isn’t over, but with all the scientific evidence of global warming, I can hope. Perhaps the hard freezes are over and the ice has retreated to the arctic. Or not.

And the birds are waking us up with their chirping in the mornings. It certainly sounds very spring-like, which, as I am reminded by my Taller Half, happens every February. Mother Nature offers us a hint of spring that thrills our hearts and our houses. Then she slams us all with freezing temperatures, wind and snow. Mother Nature can be a very difficult lady.

This winter has been exceptionally bitter, or at least our house and I think so. We are more than ready for warmer temperatures and lots of sunny days, particularly our deck. Poor thing has endured freezing rain, hail and layers of snow all winter. Right now she is basking in the warmer temps and baring her boards to the sunshine. So is our roof, and I know just how they feel.

Though winter is still here and a chance of snow is possible this weekend, spring is the next season on the calendar. It might not be here tomorrow, but it is coming. So sharpen the blades on the mower, buy those seeds and be ready.
