Antique Festival brings old friends and pricey glass

They say the best antiques are old friends and the best place to see old friends was at the recent annual Antique Festival in beautiful Millersburg. With a backdrop of the historic courthouse, the Millersburg Glass auction highlight was a purple Peoples vase selling for $31,000, yes, thirty-one thousand dollars - you might want to search the attic for this one. Checking with some dealers, Saturday evening sales were slow but expected to pick up on Sunday.
Some recent auction prices: string of sleigh bells, $75; Putnam dye cabinet, $100; wood three-tine pitchfork, $65; .22-caliber Winchester rifle, $110; 1913 National cash register, $60; Vapo-Cresolene lamp, $50; two old silhouette pictures, $35; toy wind-up Popeye, $90; folk art Santa pushing a cart, $70; a nice stoneware crock with blue eagle decoration, $225.
The picture this week is a very nice Coca-Cola tray made by the American Art Works in Coshocton. Prices can reach into the hundreds of dollars for mint condition trays dated in the 1920s. I was happy to pay $50 for this nice bathing beauty.
Happy hunting, Brooks.
P.S. Congratulations to Bob and Ben Bell for being selected as grand marshals of the Antique Festival.
