Snow is like a fancy hat for our house

Our house is not a fan of winter, but she does like snow. The reason is she just loves having snow on her roof. Its like a fancy hat for her, plus the fact that it helps insulate her attic and keeps her cozy. The other houses in our neighborhood seem to be of the same mind and dont mind being snowcapped. They dont even mind the icicles hanging from their eaves. Houses like being trimmed with shiny, icy jewelry.
It really is a pretty sight, particularly in the moonlight. Snow on the roof is not a problem; snow on the walk and driveway is. We do have a snow thrower living in our garage, but it doesnt get much exercise. My Taller Half would rather ignore the snow than deal with it. Actually thats not such a bad idea. Snow hides a multitude of never got around to chores.
The recent rains have washed the snow coating away for now. Our house has lost her necklace of icicles and her fluffy white hat, and her naked shingles are exposed. It doesnt look bad, just not normal for this time of year.
But not to worry. The January thaw is traditionally followed by a return of winter bluster, complete with enough snow to cap a roof. The icicles will return to bedeck the eaves, and the houses will glow in the moonlight. All undone garden chores will once again be hidden until spring, and we humans may retreat into our snowcapped houses.
Spring will be here eventually, so enjoy your beautifully bedecked house in all her winter finery while you may. It wont be too long before the snow is gone for good, and thats when your house will begin thinking about spring cleaning. Our house will probably want her deck repainted, her siding scrubbed and her windows washed. And to think we used to love the advent of spring.
