WOOSTER MEN SHOW UP WELL
Exceptionally fine golf was the feature of the first two rounds of match play in the State Tourney on Thursday at the Euclid C. C. of Cleveland. The course continues to be in elegant shape and the amateurs are making the best of it. For the championship there are left four prominent state golfers, Crowell, Climo, Weber and present state champion J. K. Bole. Play continues today and by Saturday evening the champion of Ohio will once more be declared.
C. H. Ohl of Wooster in his first match yesterday played a grand game against G. W. Kenson of the Arlington C. C. and won by the close margin of 3 up and 2 o play. In the afternoon Ohl met a man of greater experience than he and was finally defeated by Mr. Knight of Lakeside C. C. in a very close match, by the score of only 2 down. With his defeat went Wooster's prospects for winning anything in the third night. The showing made by this young man, however, was of the best and with more experience and years, Clarence Ohl will be holding his own with the best talent in the state.
Dr. Martin won his morning match yesterday against J. P. Burton of the Euclid C. C. by score of 2 up; but was unfortunate during the afternoon and lost to J. Cuddy of the County C. C. 2 down and 1 to play. Wooster men did well and have reason to feel encouraged over this showing made on a strange course much longer than our own. The local standard of golf has improved greatly since the start of the game here only a few years ago and with the interest that is not manifest in this great pastime, Wooster men will continue to be heard from more and more in the future.
CAME NEAR DROWNING
Fred Evans, of Doylestown, was nearly drowned in Chippewa creek, on the Galehouse farm south of the village last Sunday. Evans jumped into an eight foot hole while very warm and was seized with cramps. His companion, Charles Schaeffer, rescued him.
