It was a beautiful weekend for a road trip

When the sun is shining and the sky is blue, a road trip can be a delightful experience.

This weekend was such an experience. There were cloudy skies and some rain when we started, but soon the sun burst out and sent those clouds flying, revealing a clear blue sky. Soon, the countryside was bright with the new green leaves on the trees, the lush green grass on the fields and the occasional tree decorated with lovely blooms.

Of course, a road trip isn’t all beauty; there is traffic to contend with. Our encounter with traffic on this particular trip wasn’t really bad, but it was certainly noisy. Trucks and cars passed us like we were just moseying along, although we were “only” driving 3 or 4 miles over the speed limit. That can be a bit unnerving to say the least. Several times we saw drivers stopped by police, but that slowed the traffic down for only the few seconds
it took to pass them.

Drivers on interstates seem to think they are given license to motor along at the speed that suits them. As a result we prefer to avoid those busy highways and enjoy the beauty of the countryside on slower roads. They might twist and turn, but they are certainly quieter and more attractive.

When we arrived at our destination without any incidents, it was great to get out of our car and just stand up for a few minutes. Of course, that is when the rain came back and soaked us while we unloaded our luggage. At that point we really didn’t care what Mother Nature doused us with. We were so glad to be traffic-free and at our destination safe and sound. A little rain didn’t matter one bit.

The rest of our visit was spent visiting, eating, talking, eating, resting, talking, eating. It was a great trip, and we enjoyed every minute of it. Then the time came for us to head back
home. A bit of rain started us on our way, but soon the sky cleared and the sun came out. The traffic on our way home was surprisingly light, and we could relax and enjoy the views.

We arrived home, and as soon as we sat down, we were ready to call it a day. We both went to sleep before we got off the sofa. That’s what I call a great road trip!
