This weekend many of us will celebrate Mother’s Day. What can you do to make the moms in your life feel special? Let’s consider all the moms — moms, grandmas, stepmoms, mothers-in-law and our pet-mamas.

Here are 10 ideas that go beyond a card.

Classic Breakfast
in Bed

Trade places and make Mom breakfast. Serve it to her in bed or let her sleep in and just make her favorite breakfast. Consider something special like chocolate-chip pancakes that are just as sweet as she is.

Check a few things off her to-do list

Helping Mom tackle some to-do’s is a huge help. There is always more that needs done than time to do it. Giving the gift of time (yours) has the benefit of also giving Mom back some of her time.

Recreate her favorite meal

There is something special about going out to eat; however, sometimes dealing with crowded restaurants and wait times takes the enjoyment out of the experience. Can you try to recreate Moms favorite meal at home? It doesn’t have to be perfect. Similar ambience, similar foods, she’ll get the picture. Clean up the mess too.

Just desserts

What is her favorite dessert or something she enjoys but doesn’t make often? It could be an old family favorite or something “ah”-worthy like a molten lava cake (really easy). You can make or buy the treat.

The gift of time

I mentioned the gift of time earlier, but here we’re talking “all about her” time. Ask the mom you are celebrating what she needs/wants — time alone or time together. This may be the time to take the kids on an adventure for the day and let Mom have a day of quiet.

Take a class together

Is there something you and Mom can do together — a painting class, cooking, cake decorating, flower arranging or more? Again, it’s all about the experience and the time you spend together.

Give her a spa day (at home)

If the mom in your life needs some down time, help her create a restful, spa-like space in her own home. Some candles, essential oils and relaxing music set the scene. Then make sure she gets plenty of peace and quiet time to enjoy her oasis of calm.

Go on an adventure together

Tell mom you’ll pick her up and surprise her with a fun-filled day out and about. Go to that place she can’t stop talking about — the new shop that just opened, her favorite café or anywhere she wants to go.

A few of her favorite things

Gifting several smaller items you know are things this mom enjoys can be more valuable than a large gift. This can show you are paying attention to the tiny details in life.

Connect with nature

Get outside. Go to a park. Go for a bike ride or hike on one of the trails. Simply take a walk in your own neighborhood. Soak in the wonders of the world around you, together.

However you celebrate, don’t forget to tell the moms in your life how much they mean to you. Happy Mother’s Day to all moms!
