Maybe I’ll just row across the yard

I don’t remember having this much rain last year, although, admittedly, my memory is not one to be counted upon. This year it seems Mother Nature must be very thirsty because she is certainly enjoying providing way more rain than we humans want or need. Hope she hasn’t planned to use up her water before hot weather arrives this summer.

Years ago we suffered through a summer drought. It wasn’t a fun time, which added to our water bills enormously. Our poor plants didn’t do well, despite the expensive water we lavished upon them. It was the intense heat from the constant sunshine that baked them alive. A couple just gave up and wilted away. This year is making up for that years-ago drought, and it appears our gardens love it. The lawn is another matter because large areas are now living under water. Much more of the wet stuff and we’ll have to name our yard Lake Rain.

The few bees that have been seen lately don’t seem happy about having to dive to gather what pollen is available. Actually, the other day I saw a bit of yellow floating around a few daffodils. Perhaps our bees have yet to figure out how to skim pollen off of water.

Despite the plight of our lawn, our house has been delighted with her almost daily baths. Her windows are so clean they almost sparkle. Because our children have hissy fits if we climb up on ladders to wash windows, we don’t. Now those windows look brand new.

I am afraid if I don’t say something positive about all this wet weather that Mother Nature will punish us with another drought. Just hope my comments don’t irritate her. She is a powerful force not to be trifled with. She does as she pleases. We can only hope she forgives and forgets any transgressions we humans may commit. Let’s end this wisely; Mother Nature, you are absolutely wonderful.
