AAUW scholarship available
The Wooster branch of the American Association of University Women is now accepting applications for the 2018 AAUW scholarship program. The Wooster AAUW scholarship is available to female residents of Wayne County whose post-secondary education was interrupted by financial or family issues.
It is for nontraditional students enrolled or planning to enroll in a qualified undergraduate associate and/or bachelor’s degree program. It is not for students coming directly out of high school nor for persons pursuing a graduate degree.
Funding for the AAUW scholarship program is partially provided by the annual AAUW/Kiwanis used book sale held every year in the fall. Awards are based on need and available funds and range from $500-$2,500.
Awards can be used for tuition and fees (not including room and board) required for enrollment at your school as well as fees, books, supplies and equipment directly required for your course of study.
Prior recipients are eligible to reapply, although there is a two-award maximum.
The deadline for applications is May 1. Scholarship recipients will be notified by June 15 with instructions on how to proceed. Funds will be available for distribution after July 1.
The scholarship application and instructions for applying are available on the Wooster branch of AAUW website at wooster-oh.aauw.net or on the Wayne County Community Foundation website at www.waynecountycommunityfoundation.org.
It is the goal of the national AAUW organization to advance equity and empower women. This scholarship aims to help women who are not recent high school graduates but wish to complete or begin a two- or four-year academic program.
In 2017 the group awarded five different scholarships to women who were working on degrees in nursing, accounting and education.
