Due to the huge success of the previous Law Day events, Court Administrator Elizabeth Stephenson has extended an opportunity to invite high school students to the Tuscarawas County courtrooms to observe criminal hearings Feb. 20. Judge Edward Emmett O’Farrell and Judge Elizabeth Lehigh Thomakos strongly believe that it is important for students to see the judicial process in action. All students, particularly at risk students, should have a chance to attend Law Day to witness the consequences of poor choices. Schools are encouraged to consider including all students for participation in this event. The intent of Law Day is to advise all types of students including at risk, college bound and honors. There are two courtrooms that will hold hearings. Judge Thomakos’ courtroom seats 35 people and is in session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Arrive at the Tuscarawas County Courthouse no later than 11:30 a.m. Proceedings will conclude by 1 p.m. Judge O’Farrell’s courtroom seats 55 people and is in session from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Arrive at the courthouse no later than 11:45 a.m. Proceedings will conclude by 1:15 p.m. Students will be processed through courthouse security.
