Erin Bille became a teacher because she always enjoyed working with young people.

“I also wanted to make a difference in the world and have a positive impact on my students,” said Bille, who teaches seventh- and eighth-grade social studies at Hiland Middle School.

Bille is in her ninth year of teaching in the East Holmes Local School District and 21st overall. Her favorite teaching memories involve moments when students were engaged and enjoyed classroom activities.

“During these moments they found learning fun,” she said. “These moments also involve times when students reached or exceeded their goals.”

When Bille began her teaching career, she didn’t realize teachers never stop learning.

“I continue to evolve as a teacher, learning new teaching strategies (and) technology tools and expanding my content knowledge,” she said. “I have discovered that teachers must truly be lifelong learners.”

For Bille, the most rewarding part of her job is helping students reach their potential and figuring out how they learn best. The most challenging part is meeting her students’ diverse learning needs.

Bille played basketball, volleyball and softball when she was a student at Hiland High School. She also was in the National Honor Society. She continued her basketball career at The College of Wooster.

Bille enjoys spending time with her family, watching her sons play sports, cooking and traveling when she’s not teaching.

“Teacher Spotlight” is a feature on a teacher in the East Holmes or West Holmes school districts.
