When Catrina Crider was a senior in high school, she had the opportunity during her study hall period to go to the kindergarten wing of her school and tutor children who needed extra support.

“I fell in love (with teaching) and knew that it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life,” said Crider, who teaches first grade at Millersburg Elementary.

Crider loves watching her students grow and learn throughout each school year.

“The beginning-to-end result in first grade is absolutely amazing,” she said.

Her favorite teaching memories involve field trips.

“I love seeing kids outside of the classroom and how they interact with others,” she said.

When Crider started her teaching career, she didn’t realize she would make some of her best friends through the profession.

“I am very thankful for my teacher tribe,” she said.

Crider said the most challenging part of her job is getting attached to her students each year and having them move on to the next grade.

Crider was involved in cheerleading, track, band, pep band, choir, show choir and competitive dance when she was a student.

When she’s not teaching, she enjoys hanging out with her family.

“We love to go camping together,” she said.

Crider can be found teaching dance two nights a week at Shine Bright Dance Studio when she’s not spending time with her family.

“Teacher Spotlight” is a feature on a local teacher.
