Here is the latest important dates and information for Wooster City Schools. Wednesday, Aug. 21 is the first day of school for students.

Read and Play Night

The final Read and Play Night will be Thursday, Aug. 1 from 6-7 p.m. at the Cornerstone Play Lab.

Transportation

The deadline to fill out final forms for transportation this school year, whether your student is busing or self-transporting, is Aug. 1 in order to guarantee busing for the first week of school. This includes any juniors and seniors going to the Wayne County Schools Career Center.

Visit woostercityschools.org, select Final Forms on the homepage, log in, and update and submit all forms. Once updated, a routing ticket will be created, and information will be emailed to parents and schools.

Open houses
Monday, Aug. 19

—Preschool from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Littlest Generals Preschool.

—First grade through fourth grade from 6-7 p.m. at elementary buildings.

—Eighth grade from 6-7 p.m. at Wooster High School.

—Ninth grade through 12th grade from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Wooster High School.

Tuesday, Aug. 20

—Fifth grade from 5-6 p.m. at Edgewood Middle School.

—Sixth grade through seventh grade from 6-7 p.m. at Edgewood Middle School.

Friday, Aug. 23

—Kindergarten from 5-6 p.m. at elementary buildings.

Ohio’s Tax Free Weekend

Earlier this year Gov. Mike DeWine announced he extended the annual sales tax holiday for 2024 to 10 days. It will start at midnight on July 30 and last until 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 8. Included in the tax-free goods are school supplies, clothing items and any items needed to help children during the school year.

Kiwanis Safety Town

This year’s Safety Town, open to all local students entering kindergarten in the fall of 2024, will be held Aug. 5-9 at Cornerstone Elementary from 6-8 p.m. at a cost of $18 per child.

Children will learn how to keep themselves safe at home, at school and in the community. For more information email woosterkiwanis@gmail.com. Register at www.woosterkiwanis.org. Scholarships are available.

Kindergarten registration

If you have a kindergarten-age child or know someone who does, take a moment to register for WCS kindergarten as soon as possible.

Registrants will need the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency and proof of custody or guardianship if applicable.

School board meetings

Wooster City Schools Board of Education meetings are open to the public in the large group instruction room near the WHS library.

Meeting dates are Tuesdays at 6 p.m. on Aug. 20, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17.
