Gene Troyer, a teacher from Tuscarawas Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School, New Philadelphia, recently received a 10-year Teacher Service Award from Lucia McQuaide, superintendent of Catholic Schools, for his years of dedicated service to the Catholic Diocese of Columbus. “We salute these educators for their continued commitment to our students,” McQuaide said. “Their devotion and daily example of living a life of service help our students develop intellectually, spiritually, psychologically and socially. Their service is an inspiration to all of us.” She also noted that Catholic schools provide students not just licensed and certified teachers, but educators with extensive experience in helping students learn and succeed. Created in 1985, the award honors teachers in Catholic elementary and high schools throughout the 23-county diocese for specific levels of years of service, including 10, 20, 30 and 40 years.
