East Holmes BOE awards contracts for roof repairs
The East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met for a regular meeting on Friday, Dec. 20 at the Central Office.
The board did the following during the meeting:
—Recognized the following WKLM Student of the Week recipients: Lydia Johnson, Nov. 18-22; Boone Miller, Nov. 25-29; Anniston Miller, Nov. 25-29; Alexis Henry, Dec. 2-6; Eva Hummel, Dec. 9-13; and Vanessa Gomez, Dec. 16-20.
—Approved the state test translation services by Ganna (Anya) Schlegel for $200 for state testing translation work performed during the 2024-25 school year.
—Approved inter-district open enrollment for two students at Berlin Elementary and one student at Hiland High School for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year.
—Approved the purchase of two 2026 Bluebird 72-passenger school buses through Cardinal for $132,239.29 each. Bids were received through META Solutions.
—Approved the purchase of a 2024 Ram Ford transit van through Bus Service Incorporated for $74,568. Bids were received through META Solutions.
—Approved the renewal of the Ohio School Boards Association membership for January through December 2025.
—Approved the renewal of the Ohio School Boards Association Legal Assistant Fund Consultant Service contract for January through December 2025.
—Approved a resolution to administer third grade assessments in English/language arts and mathematics in a paper format for the 2025-26 school year.
—Approved the Hiland ASL class field trip to Washington, D.C. March 9-11, 2025.
—Approved the Hiland eighth grade class field trip to Washington, D.C. April 2-5, 2025.
—Approved the Chestnut Ridge and Mt. Hope eighth grade class field trip to Washington, D.C. May 7-9, 2025.
—A resolution was given announcing the approval of a contract award to MEB Systems Inc. for roof repair at Berlin Elementary School for $111,350, plus unit pricing for repairs as outlined in the bid documents.
—A resolution was given announcing the approval of a contract award to MEB Systems Inc. for roof repair at Hiland High and Middle School for $144,550, plus unit pricing for repairs as outlined in the bid documents.
—A resolution was given announcing the approval of a contract award to MEB Systems Inc. for roof repair at Wise Elementary School for $96,750, plus unit pricing for repairs as outlined in the bid documents.
—Approved Julia Klink as president pro tempore for the Jan. 10 board meeting.
—Accepted the following resignations: Diane Duarte, secretary at Berlin, effective June 1, 2025, and Karen Welling, custodian at Chestnut Ridge/Walnut Creek, effective May 29, 2025.
—Approved a change in retirement dates for the following: Erma Hershberger, retiring effective Jan. 31, 2025; Marvin Hershberger, retiring effective Jan. 31, 2025; and Vicki Antequera, retiring effective June 1, 2025.
—Approved all substitute personnel hired by East Holmes Local Schools and the Tri-County Educational Service Center for the 2024-25 school year.
—Approved the transfer of Mary Plant from cook at Hiland to classroom aide at Mt. Hope Elementary, retroactive to Dec. 3, 2024.
—Approved a one-year limited contract for the 2024-25 school year to the following classified personnel: Dean Cropp, evening custodian at Flat Ridge and Perry Reese Center, effective Jan. 29, 2025.
—Approved stipends for six teachers who completed Ohio’s Science of Reading required professional development. The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has committed to reimbursing the stipend amounts for each teacher.
—Approved the following placements on the certified salary schedule, effective Feb. 1, 2025: Jenny Bauer to Masters+20 and Jason Weigman to Masters+20.
—Approved the following supplemental positions for the 2024-25 school year: Chris Dages, baseball varsity head coach; Richard Mast, baseball varsity assistant coach; Kevin Schrock, baseball JV head coach and baseball freshman head coach; Jordan Yoder, baseball assistant coach volunteer; Tyler Gray, baseball assistant coach volunteer; Kendall Schlabach, baseball assistant coach volunteer; Kari Sparling, softball varsity head coach; Jana Immel, softball varsity assistant coach; Olivia Blosser; track boys/girls high school head coach; Courtney Miller, track boys/girls assistant coach volunteer; Megan Amos, track junior high head coach; Carrie Jones, tennis head coach; Emily Hile, spring play director; Ken Hochstetler, Ski Club adviser volunteer; and Sherri Hochstetler, Ski Club adviser volunteer.
