East Holmes BOE approves supplemental positions
                        

The East Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met for a regular meeting on Sept. 20 at the Central Office.

The board did the following during the meeting:

—Recognized the following WKLM Student of the Week recipients: Anita Miller, Aug. 26-30; Kierra Miller, Aug. 26-30; Trevor Ferrell, Sept. 2-6; Gabby Miller, Sept. 2-6; Asher Rubio, Sept. 9-13; Eli Shoup, Sept. 9-13; Sarah Wengerd, Sept. 16-20; and Isaiah Wagler, Sept. 16-20.

—Accepted the following donations: $200 from Keim to the walking/running club at Winesburg Elementary, $1,000 from Mavin to the walking/running club at Winesburg Elementary, $500 from the Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation to the Hiland FFA program and $300 from TFC Global to the Hiland FFA program.

—Approved a proposal from GPD Group for architectural and engineering services for the East Holmes LSD Classroom Phased Renovation Project.

—Accepted the following resignations: Vicki Antequera, Spanish teacher at Hiland, retiring effective Nov. 1, 2025; Matthew Johnson, bus driver, retiring at the end of the 2024-25 contractual school year; Suzanne Kalman, business teacher at Hiland, retiring at the end of the 2024-25 contractual school year; Benjamin Miller, teacher for seventh and eighth grade at Chestnut Ridge, retiring at the end of the 2024-25 contractual school year; and Jennifer Miller, secretary to the superintendent, retiring effective April 1, 2025.

—Approved all substitute personnel hired by East Holmes Local Schools and the Tri-County Educational Service Center for the 2024-25 school year.

—Approved the following placements on the certified salary schedule, effective at the beginning of the 2024-25 contractual school year: Jared Coblentz to BA+150.

—Approved a one-year limited contract for the 2024-25 school year for the following new classified personnel: Slade Barnes, full-time substitute bus driver, 151 days, six hours per day, effective Oct. 7. Barnes also was approved as transportation assistant for the 2024-25 school year, effective Oct. 7.

—Approved the following supplemental positions for the 2024-25 school year: Brady Schlabach, girls basketball varsity head coach; Cody Starr, girls basketball varsity assistant coach; Megan Beachy, girls basketball junior varsity head coach; Kimberly Wagler, girls basketball assistant coach volunteer; Kristen Thomas, girls basketball eighth-grade coach; Krista Troyer, girls basketball seventh-grade coach; Mark Schlabach, boys basketball varsity head coach; Paul Zacour, boys basketball varsity assistant coach; Allan Miller, boys basketball junior varsity head coach; Cameron Miller, boys basketball freshman coach; Ben Draper, boys basketball assistant coach volunteer; Reis Bonifant, boys basketball eighth-grade coach; Josh Miller, boys basketball seventh-grade coach; Callie Gerber, high school cheerleader adviser; Allison Hochstetler, junior high cheerleader adviser; and Renita Neininger, assistant marching band director.

Other information

The RFQ phases for professional design services and construction manager at risk were reviewed during the meeting. The selected firm for professional design services is GPD Group, which was approved at the August board meeting. For the CMR RFQ, rankings shared during the Sept. 20 meeting included Adena Corporation, Hammond Construction and Shook Construction. RFPs were sent to all three CMR firms on Sept. 20, with preproposal meetings on Sept. 27 and submissions due by Oct. 10. Interviews and selection will occur by Oct. 16, with the selected CMR firm being announced at the October board meeting, leading into the preconstruction and construction phases.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m. at the East Holmes Central Office.
