Interviewing for a job can be a taxing issue as today’s graduates make their way into the work force. A group of Hiland High School students got a leg up on the process during a recent District FFA competition. On Thursday, Jan. 28, five members of the Hiland FFA chapter competed in the District 8 Job Interview Career Development Event at Buckeye Career Center, and performed well in addition to gaining some invaluable experience. Before the contest, students prepared a cover letter, resume and list of references. The contest consisted of completing a job application, a personal interview with judges, and writing a follow-up letter to the interviewer. Of the Hiland students who placed, Whitney Hottle finished second in the freshmen division, RaKayla Burke placed first in the sophomore division, Amanda Yoder placed third in the junior division, Emily Schlabach placed second in the senior division and Lindsey Kline placed fourth in the first-year member division. RaKayla Burke will represent the Hiland FFA chapter at the State contest on March 6. “This was great experience for these students to help prepare them for their futures,” said Amanda Bisesi, Hiland FFA advisor. “Students learned to be professional, proper interview techniques, and how to go through the entire process of applying and interviewing for an agricultural job.”
