Marching Quaker Band earns top honors
The New Philadelphia High Marching Quaker Band competed in two OMEA competitions on Saturday, Oct. 3. The first competition was held at Nordonia High School in Macedonia. There, the band took first place in Class A along with earning a Superior Rating of I. Following their performance, the band traveled to Cuyahoga Valley National Park where the band boosters had lunch prepared for them.During the evening, the band competed at Revere High School in Richfield. The Marching Quakers captured first place in Class A along with first place percussion and first place auxiliary. They also earned another Superior Rating for their performance there.
Following Saturday’s competitions, Jeff Furbay, director, said, “All of the hard work and effort the students have put into this show is starting to pay off. I am so very proud of each and every one of them.”
The Quakers next competition will be at the Bands of America Regional Competition, to be held at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The 34th annual New Philadelphia Field Competition will be held at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at 4 p.m.
Assistant directors are Daphne Chek, Nic McCoy, and Kyle Mattevi. Auxiliary instructors are Erica Yarnell and Leanna Rummes.
