The Wayne County Schools Career Center will host an open house on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 5-7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend, with a special invitation extended to all Wayne County eighth, ninth and 10th-graders and their families. A few college, university and career-technical school partners and the career center placement coordinator will be in the commons to answer questions about colleges and job placement. Additional information about college credit opportunities will be available from career-technical instructors. Student organizations will have displays describing their activities, and teaching professions, a program for seniors only, will have a display and information about that program, which meets at Wayne College. Instructors for exercise science and sports medicine, will meet parents and interested students at Wooster High School. Academic teachers will provide information about a wide range of levels in academics, including dual enrollment, advanced, and life skill academics. Some programs offer a part-day option so students can take their academics at their home high school and their career-technical program at the career center. Light refreshments will be available in the commons. Guidance counselors will answer questions about the application process, and the extra help area will be open with information on assistance for students. Drawing prizes from local businesses will be awarded to eighth, ninth and 10th-graders. Building tours will be led by staff and student guides, but maps will be available for those who want to tour on their own. Adult and Community Education will answer questions and provide information on a wide range of classes and career training programs. The career center is located at 518 West Prospect St. in Smithville. For more information, call 330-669-7000 or go to the school website at http://www.wcscc.org.
