Pomerene awards 4 scholarships
The Pomerene Health Foundation has awarded four scholarships to 2019 graduating seniors from West Holmes, Hiland and Waynedale. The foundation’s goal in awarding these scholarships is to assist local students pursuing a health-care career in Pomerene Hospital’s market service area.
Each application was reviewed by the selection committee for academic excellence, financial need, ACT/SAT scores and extracurricular activities/community involvement. Eligibility for the awards included the applicants entering a health-related field of study and enrolling in a four-year or a technical two- to three-year school.
Students were chosen by the Pomerene Health Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee based on their achievements within their high school careers. The students along with their parents were invited to the Pomerene Hospital board of directors meeting on June 27. The students received their scholarship certificate and a $1,000 check payable to their intended college or university.
The following students were chosen: Falyn Miller, daughter of Todd and Carree Miller, Hiland High School, Ashland University, nursing; Lori Troyer, daughter of Paul and Mary Troyer, Waynedale High School, Youngstown State University, nursing; Bethany Kula, daughter of Keith and Jacqueline Kula, West Holmes High School, Ashland University, nursing; and Karley Halloran, daughter of David and Janine Halloran, West Holmes High School, Ashland University, dietetics and nutrition.
The Pomerene Health Foundation, founded in 2016, is responsible for the fundraising efforts of Pomerene Hospital.
