Applications are currently being accepted for the Friends of the Tuscarawas County Public Library – Nellie Stockwell Memorial Grant in Aid. The grant named after the library’s first librarian is open to area students who are planning to continue their education after high school.

“As Friends of the Library members, we support and advocate for the library and its role in promoting literacy and learning through a lifetime,” Friends of the Library President Candy Beaber said. “Thanks to a generous donation from the VFW Post 1445, this year’s winner will be awarded $1,000.”

To be eligible for this grant, students must be a graduate of a local high school or a resident of Tuscarawas County seeking higher education. Applicants with a GED will be accepted. Anyone with questions about eligibility may email inquiries to tcplevents@tusclibrary.org.

Applicants are required to provide three letters of recommendation and a letter of admission or schedule of courses for an accredited college, university or technical school. This includes online programs. A typed 500-word essay expressing why the Tuscarawas County Public Library System is important to the applicant also is required to be considered for the award.

Applications for this grant will be available in school guidance offices and at the Tuscarawas Main Library. Completed applications are due June 1 and may be turned in at the Tuscarawas Main Library in New Philadelphia or mailed to Friends Scholarship Committee, Tuscarawas County Public Library, 121 Fair Ave. NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663. No late applications will be accepted. The winner will be notified by late summer.
