Strasburg BOE approves Land to Farm Agreement

The Strasburg Board of Education approved a Land to Farm Agreement at the Feb. 17 meeting. The agreement includes Terry and Sherri Garber and Myers Brothers Farm to farm land owned by the district from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2025. The farm land the Myers brothers will farm is located on the east side of Tiger Drive. The Garbers' land to farm is on the west side of Tiger Drive.

The board also did the following:

—Passed a resolution adopting special education model policies and procedures. The resolution must be submitted by March 30 to DEW’s Monitoring System.

—Approved one-year supplemental contracts to Brandon Troyer and Scott Sauenheimer, volunteer assistant baseball, and Chad West and Jessica Barkley, track assistants.

—Approved Trish Derheimer as district substitute, effective Jan. 21, and Elaina Wertz, district substitute, effective Feb. 7.

—Passed a resolution authorizing continued membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2025-26 school year.

—Passed a resolution to participate in the Stark County Schools Council of Government Cooperative advertising and receiving bids for unit. The district will enter the consortium to purchase a 65-passenger handicapped conventional school bus. The resolution does not obligate the district to purchase a bus.

—Gave approval to the 2025-26 district calendar. The first day of school will be Aug. 20, winter break will be Dec. 22 to Jan. 2 and the last day for students will be May 19. Graduation will be May 17.

—Approved 14 revised annual business resolutions.

—Heard applications are being accepted for Little Tiger Preschool March 7 and 8. For more information call the school at 330-878-5771.

—Approved the purchase of a 2026 International school bus at a cost of $134,821.

—Held an executive session to discuss the appointment, employment and compensations of employees and to consider the buying and selling of property. No action was taken.

The board recognized February Student of the Month recipients Alex Neukam, high school; Caleb Zaugg, middle school; and Thorin Mackey, elementary. Raelynn Lancaster was the January High School Student of the Month.

Sixth-grader Landyn Dreher was the district spelling bee champion. Runner-up was eighth-grader Dalanee Herron. The bee went 30 rounds. Dreher will participate in the Regional Bee at Kent State Stark on March 15.

Three members of the speech and debate team qualified for state competition. They are Savannah Powell, Violet Thomas and Shelby Kinsey.

Palentine Day Service included packing items for Akron Children’s Hospital, visiting the Carpenter’s Cupboard, Oak Point Nursing Home, Strasburg Senior Center and the Homeless Center. This event was held on Valentine’s Day.

The next meeting will be March 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the administration building, 140 N. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg.
