Students create Warming Tree
A Warming Tree stood tall in both of Ronna Coventry’s classrooms at Immaculate Conception School this year.
The small trees couldn’t be seen because of all the donated items that hung on each of the branches. The children in the preschool and pre-k classes donated and decorated the trees with items needed to keep someone warm this winter.
More than 300 hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, socks and underwear adorn the trees. Several coats and other clothing items also were given and placed under the tree.
The children discussed the importance of helping others and how even the simplest way can make a difference in someone’s life.
Christmas is a great time to give to those in need. When it was time to donate the items, the children took the time to count, sort and pack up all the items to be delivered to the Salvation Army and a few individuals who could use a little help this year.
The children also donated to the school’s toy and canned food drive along with a pajama collection and a stuffed animal drive. All collected items will be donated to local organizations that distribute to those who have fallen on hard times this year.
