There will be a sneaky, conniving intruder to West Holmes High School on Feb. 25-28, and the folks of Holmes County will be the better for it. Members of the West Holmes High School choir will present The Music Man in the Excalibur Theater, with evening shows beginning at 7 p.m. slated for Feb. 25-27, and a 2 p.m. matinee scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28. As the cast prepares for this beloved musical, they have had to deal the huge hurdle of the weather. “Oh, it’s been bad,” said director Kristen Rodhe. “It has certainly put us behind, and it’s been tough to get into any kind of rhythm at practice, and we’ve had a lack of any kind of consistent practices, but we’ll get it. These things always seem to come together because the kids are willing to work at it to do so.” Rodhe said that The Music Man has always been one of her favorites, and that on the heels of last year’s Beauty and the Beast production, it seemed like a perfect time to get it into the line-up. “The Music Man is a classic tale that everyone needs to see at least once in their lifetime,” said Rodhe. “It has so much entertainment in it. We can include a large cast, and the songs are great. It’s one hit song after another.” The Music Man is a musical with book, music, and lyrics by Meredith Willson. The show is based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. The plot concerns con man Harold Hill, who poses as a boys’ band organizer and leader and sells band instruments and uniforms to naive townsfolk before skipping town with the cash. In River City, Iowa, prim Marian the librarian sees through him, but when Hill helps her younger brother, Marian begins to fall in love with Harold. Hill, in turn, falling for Marian, risks being caught to win her. Famous music numbers pepper the musical, with hits like Gary Ind., It’s You, Seventy-Six Trombones, The Wells Fargo Wagon, Shipoopi, Lida Rose, ‘Till There was You, Iowa Stubborn and Trouble and more. The cast includes Nick Wolff as Professor Harold Hill, Ali Jaeb as Marian Paroo, Aaron Waltman as Mayor Shinn, Annie Jaeb as Mrs. Shinn, Josh Spector as Marcellus, Elisa Bevington as Mrs. Paroo, Cole Woods as Winthrop and Danny Nelson as Tommy Djelis. Tickets for the production of The Music Man are now on sale at the high school. Presale tickets are $6 for adults, and $4 for students, with all tickets at the door at $6.
