Thirteen students qualify for State Business Professionals of America in Ohio Region 8 competition

Thirteen Wayne County Schools Career Center business students have qualified for State Business Professionals of America in Ohio Region 8 after competitions were held in January. Awards were presented at the Wooster Grace Brethren Church. The Wayne County Schools Career Center hosted some of the regional contests. Schools participating in the contests were: Buckeye Career Center of New Philadelphia, Canton South High School, GlenOak High School of North Canton, R.G. Drage Career Center of Massillon and Wayne County.
The following students will advance to the State contest on March 14 and 15 in Columbus:
Keyboarding production: Rachel Hanna of Chippewa, tied for first place.
Desktop publishing: Trinda Hartzler of Norwayne, first.
Basic office systems and procedures: Katie Emerson of Rittman, first; Mariah Beery of Smithville, second.
Medical office procedures: Martha Jenkins of Norwayne, second.
Web design team: Kyle Norris of Wooster and Kyle Tobias of Smithville, first.
Video production team: Trey Eikleberry of Triway, James Moore of Triway, and Cameron Jenkins and Rodney Myers, both of Orrville, first.
Graphic design promotion: Chase Balcziunas of Chippewa, first.
Presentation management individual: Genevieve Fisher of Waynedale, first.
Wayne County students placed as follows in the contests:
Financial math and analysis: Amber Wurgler of Norwayne, first; Amber Tanksley of Wooster, second; Micaela Smith of Chippewa, third; Alyssa Saurer of Central Christian, fourth.
Administrative support concepts: Martha Jenkins, first.
Fundamental spreadsheet applications: Tiffany Collins of Wooster, fourth.
Basic office systems and procedures: Amber Wurgler, third; Amber Tanksley, sixth.
Web design team: Zach Baldwin of Wooster, Erik Bise of Rittman and Lauren Beckwith of Wooster, second.
Graphic design promotion: Ken Robart, third and Tyler McCoy, fourth, both of Smithville.
Interview skills: Nicholas Norris of Wooster, second; Joel Steiner of Smithville, third.
Advanced interview skills: Rachel Hanna, second.
Prepared speech: Colton Orem of Rittman, third.
Former business instructor Janice Anderson and former business student Monique Overstreet assisted with the ceremony. Advisers Anita Hawkins and Chris Boyan coordinated the competition preparation. Jennifer Poorman-Rue, interactive media aide, also helped prepare students for competition.
