The public is invited to join Danny Zuko, Sandy Olsson, Rizzo, The T-Birds and the Pink Ladies for a frolicking fun time at Hiland High School, as choir teacher John Harris and the music students at Hiland present the famed musical Grease. The musical, based on the lives of a group of high school teens back in 1959, gave birth to such famous songs as Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted to You, Greased Lightning, You’re the One That I Want and of course, the title track, Grease. The show will take place Feb. 26-28, and March 6-7 in the Hiland High School auditorium. Show times are at 7 p.m. for the Feb. 26-27, and March 6 showings, and 2:30 p.m. for the matinee shows on Feb. 28 and March 7. Tickets are $7 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors, and are now available at Hiland High School. Preorder your tickets by calling the school during school hours at 330-893-2626. According to Harris, the high school musical differs from the movie and the hit Broadway musical in that it has been toned down just a bit in content. “We’re excited about how it’s coming along,” said Harris. “This is the first time I’ve done Grease, and the musical numbers and dance routines are spectacular. It’s a slightly different version than the Broadway show, but it still is very fast-paced and upbeat, with plenty of well-known songs mixed with some excellent choreography. It really is one of those musicals that keeps people entertained and having a good time throughout. It never slows down.” In addition to the singers, actors and dancers on stage, a new addition this year will be an orchestra consisting of students. Harris said that the live music has always added a great deal to the musicals over the years, and he’s excited to add the gifted student body musicians to the cast. Call the high school to get your tickets reserved, and take a leap back into the happy days of the 1950s.
