Triway High’s Giltner receives Ohio DAR award
The Ohio Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution recently announced John Giltner of Triway High School as the 2025 recipient of the annual American History Teacher of the Year Award. The award was presented during the organization’s 126th State Conference Awards Luncheon, held on March 22, by DAR State Historian Stephanie Thompson Smith.
Giltner was nominated by the Wooster-Wayne Chapter, which previously honored him with its Outstanding Teacher of American History award in February. This state-level recognition celebrates his exceptional commitment to historical education and his ability to inspire students with a deep understanding of America’s past.
With over a decade of teaching experience at Triway High School, Giltner currently teaches College Credit American History and Government, World Studies and various other social studies courses. His engaging teaching style, academic rigor and dedication to student learning have earned him the respect and admiration of students, colleagues and the broader educational community.
Giltner is a graduate of Youngstown State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in History. He went on to receive a Master’s of Education from the University of Akron and a Master of Arts in American History and Government from Ashland University.
