Tuscarawas Valley Board of Education ratified a negotiated agreement between the board and Tuscarawas Valley Teachers’ Association during a special meeting on Friday, June 28 in the superintendent’s office. The three-year contract is effective July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2027, with salary schedule and index modifications. The certified staff will receive a 3% increase for each year of the three-year negotiated agreement.

Superintendent Derek Varansky said teachers also receive a one-time 1% signing bonus of each association member’s salary payable by Sept. 29, 2025. Varansky said at times there are three weeks between pay days so the signing bonus is offered only one time during the three-year contract. He said there will be an increase of the employee insurance contribution of 17% in year one, 18% in year two and 19% in year three of the contract.

The board also did the following:

—Approved 2025 fiscal year temporary appropriations of $32 million.

—Accepted donations or grants of $250 from Ohio Billing Inc. for the story walk and American Legion of $100 for the band.

—Gave approval to fiscal year 2025 services agreement with the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center at an estimated cost of $807,100 for district contract services.

—Accepted the resignation of Dusty Addington, bus driver, for retirement purposes, effective Aug. 1, 2024.

—Granted one-year supplemental contracts to 15 certified employees.

The board will hold a work session on Aug. 5 at a time to be determined, and the next regular board meeting will be held Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Trojan Center, 2632 Tusky Valley Road, Zoarville. The July 8 board meeting has been canceled.
