United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties, in partnership with the Wayne County Public Library, will hold Reading Under the Lights again at six area school districts.

Reading Under the Lights is a literacy event that encourages children to read at their highest potential while reducing the summer slide — the term used to describe declining reading comprehension over the summer months between school years. RUL ensures every attending student receives free books of their choosing.

This year’s RUL events will take place at the following schools: Triway Local School on May 3 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the high school football stadium, Rittman Exempted Village on May 5 from 5-7 p.m. at Rittman Elementary, Norwayne Local on May 11 from 6-8 p.m. at the high school football stadium, Wooster City Schools May 18-19 during school hours and not community based, and Northwestern Local on May 23 from 6-8 p.m. at the high school football stadium.

In order to make this a successful season of literacy programming across the area, UWWH is seeking financial sponsorships and donations for these literacy events. A variety of sponsorship levels are available for each school or can be spread across all six participating schools. For more information about becoming a RUL sponsor, call or email Kayley Cox at 330-264-5576 or kayley@uwwh.org.
