Megan Wallace became a teacher because she enjoys being around children and helping them learn new things.

She has spent the past 21 years in the East Holmes Local School District molding countless young lives.

Wallace will always remember the feeling of setting up her first kindergarten classroom.

“My favorite teaching memory is getting my first kindergarten classroom all set up and ready, then looking out and seeing it full of students the first day,” said Wallace, who teaches at Walnut Creek Elementary.

When Wallace began her teaching career, she didn’t realize how unique being a part of her students’ families would be.

“Having siblings and cousins and the excitement that brings for me and them is something I did not even consider,” she said. “I love teaching at a small, close-knit school.”

Teaching her students to read is the most rewarding part of her job.

“It is so exciting and such a fun part of kindergarten,” Wallace said. “I also love the connections with my students.”

A lack of time is the most difficult part of her job.

“The most challenging part of my job is not feeling like there is enough time to get everything done in a day,” Wallace said.

Wallace enjoys traveling and spending time at the lake with her husband, cooking, trying new restaurants, tackling organizational projects, and reading when she’s not teaching.
