The UA Wayne College Holmes County Higher Education Center (HCHEC) will be offering a variety of photography courses this summer, from workshops for young photographers to digital training for experienced photographers. Classes will be held at the Holmes County Center, 88-B E. Jackson Road, Millersburg and will include: - Young Photographers’ Workshop: June 18, 20, 25 and 27, from 9 a.m. to noon This workshop series, held on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning June 18, is for youth ages 11-15. It will teach students about the history of photography and masters who became famous for their eye and technique. Students will view and discuss some famous photos and then try their hand at making pictures for themselves (both indoors and outdoors as weather permits). This is an excellent opportunity for students planning to enter photos in the Holmes County Park District/Holmes County Fair photo contest. The class will culminate with a gallery show of student-produced work July 9, from 6-7:30 p.m., at HCHEC in Millersburg. Participants may bring their own camera or use one provided by the HCHEC. - Digital Photography/Getting Started: Tuesday, June 26, from 6-8 p.m. This basic course will teach students how to make their camera work best for their needs and will offer ample opportunities for taking pictures. The class will include a how-to of camera operation, using proper framing, lighting and composition to make pictures you’ll want to keep and share. - Digital Photography/After the Shot: Tuesday, July 26, from 6-8 p.m. This course is for those already comfortable with a camera and will offer an introduction to more involved camera work and styles, as well as editing, retouching and working with computer-aided photography programs. Students wishing to take both photography courses will be offered a discounted rate. Students interested in attending should register as soon as possible as class size is limited. To register, call the Holmes County Center at 330-674-2514. The classes will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
