Wayne County Career Center students place high in skill competition
Wayne County Schools Career Center students placed high recently in skill competitions at the Ohio SkillsUSA Leadership Conference in Columbus.
First place winners, advancing to nationals in Kansas City, Mo. June 24-28 are: Ashley Patterson of Orrville in cosmetology, post-secondary; Jeffrey James of Rittman in practical nursing. Electronics and computer networking student Derek Jones of Smithville placed second, but will also advance to nationals in computer maintenance. Patterson is the daughter of Kevin and Rhonda Patterson of Orrville, James is the son of Sandra James of Rittman and Jones is the son of Timothy Jones of Orrville.
In other contests, students placed as follows:
Chapter Display, fourth place – The team of carpentry students Brandon Brown of Wooster, Adam Dye of Norwayne, Kevin Lyons of Orrville and welding student Josh Simpson of Smithville.
Culinary Arts – Jessica Rinker of Chippewa, seventh.
Electronics – Dean Morrison of Norwayne, seventh.
Health Occupations Professional Portfolio – Olivia Steiner, Central Christian, practical nursing, second.
Job Skill Demo A – Michelle Perrino of Wooster, cosmetology, seventh.
Medical Math – Jessica Tullar of Smithville, second.
Practical Nursing – Brittany Campbell of Wooster, second; Kaylee Host of Waynedale, fifth.
Precision Machining – Cooper Sidle of Waynedale, tenth.
Related Technical Math – Corey Johnson of Northwestern, seventh.
Teamworks, tenth place – the team of construction technologies students Josh Leach of Smithville, Cody Daughterty of Triway, Joe Coblentz of Waynedale and Gabe Siegrist of Orrville.
Career and technical instructors serve as advisers to the students. The primary SkillsUSA advisers are Pamela Vorkapich and Rodney Martell.
