WCSCC students ice the tasks at hand at recent carving contest

                        
Five Wayne County Schools Career Center culinary arts teams competed against each other at the ice carving contest at Alice Noble Ice Arena’s 2010 Winter Magic on Ice Saturday, Feb. 27. Winning best of show and gold medals for carving two eagles and a nest in a tree was the team of Lindsaye Evans of Smithville, Heather Groves of Wooster and Kelsey Yontz of Rittman. The Peoples Choice trophy and silver medals for their Olympic shield and torch went to the team of Tori Ungerer of Wooster and Andrew Woodland of Smithville. Carving the Pittsburgh Penguin and net, and winning best theme and bronze medals were Neil Widmer of Wooster, Laura Jones of Norwayne, and Tiffany Piper of Waynedale. The team of Aaron McMahan and Tim Piper, both of Triway and Jaime Leaman of Dalton won the best safety and organization trophy and bronze medals for carving a cannon and snowman. A magic rabbit in the hat won bronze medals for the team of Dorrice Berry of Heritage Private, Rachel Howland of Smithville, and Brittany Tanksley of Wooster. Culinary arts instructors are Bob Bercaw and Andrew Arko.
