WH BOE accepting requests to fill vacant board seat
                        

The West Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met Monday, Sept. 16 at West Holmes High School for a regular meeting.

The board did the following during the meeting:

—Approved the bus routes and stops and authorized the superintendent or his designee to designate or relocate stops as deemed necessary.

—Requested authorization to function as district representatives for West Holmes Schools for the following people: Rick Brindley, principal, and Jennifer Moore, assistant principal, at Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center; Jessica Martell, education director at Holmes County Training Center; and Kim Riley, Tri-County preschool director.

—Approved 11 FFA trips.

—Approved the OMUN overnight trip Dec. 8-10 in Columbus.

—Approved a one-year contract for the 2024-25 school year for Robert Porter, truancy officer.

—Approved the hiring of Valentine Spencer, cook, effective Sept. 16.

—Approved the resignation of Elizabeth Scadden, cook, effective Sept. 13.

—Approved the transfer of Leyna Miller, cook, from West Holmes Middle School to Lakeville Elementary, effective Sept. 12.

—Approved the following substitutes: Robin Gray, cook, effective Aug. 15; Tessa Kanuckel, nondegree teacher for the 2024-25 school year, effective Aug. 27; Brittany Akers, custodial sub (up to 25 hours), Millersburg Elementary only, effective Aug. 27; J. Carice Jameson, van driver, effective Sept. 6; Michelle Taylor, cook/secretary, effective Sept. 10; and Lorre Rock, nondegree teacher for the 2024-25 school year, effective Sept. 12.

—Went into executive session and discussed the sale of district property and the employment of personnel.

The board will fill the vacancy of Eric Strouse. A letter of interest addressed to West Holmes board president at West Holmes Central Office, 28 W. Jackson St., Millersburg, OH 44654, or an email to Board President Patricia Sage at psage@westholmes.org is required to be considered for the position. Requests will be accepted until Oct. 30.

Killbuck Elementary School thanked Rodhe’s IGA and Sperry & Rice for their donations.

Nashville and Lakeville elementary schools thanked the Millersburg Eagles for its monetary donations to the Friday food bag program, Bigelow Methodist Church for its donation of school supplies for use by the students and Love Inc. for its school supply donations.

Nashville Elementary School thanked Northside Church of Millersburg for donating food items to the Friday food bag program.

West Holmes Middle School thanked Rodhe’s IGA for donating during the heat spell.
