WH BOE approves Mellor as head H.S. track & field coach
                        

The West Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met Monday, Aug. 19 at West Holmes High School for a regular meeting.

The board did the following during the meeting:

—Approved E. Scot Mellor as the new high school head track coach.

—Thanked New Pointe Church and those involved in the Community Outreach Day for providing mini first aid kits for each of the district’s classrooms.

—Thanked the anonymous donor who gave $2,000 to be used for students with learning disabilities.

—Approved alternate transportation to be used for special education or handicapped students when it is determined impractical to transport by regular routes and it is deemed necessary to transport by other means.

—Approved the West Holmes 2024-25 cafeteria handbooks.

—Approved naming Jenny Barnhart and Pattie Kidney as surrogate parents.

—Approved participating in MEC Consortium.

—Approved the central/supervisors schedule.

—Approved the appointment of board member Andrew Jones as delegate for the Ohio Schools Boards Association annual business meeting.

—Approved the wellness/success funding for 2023-24 and 2024-25, outlining the continued use of social workers, guidance counselors, and school nurse and school resource officer services.

—Approved waiving instructional fees for all students for the 2024-25 school year. All students will have a $10 activity fee, and the Class of 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 high school students will have an additional $20 fee, replacing the prior class fee structure.

—Approved the early site work/mass grading GMP-01 awarding to the Adena recommendation of Mark Schaffer Excavating for $1,162,817.

—Approved the following hirings: Aimee Raber, four-hour cook at Killbuck, effective Aug. 12; Julie Baird, four-hour cook at the high school, effective Aug. 12; Megan Stocker, four-hour cook at the middle school, effective Aug. 12; Emily Legg, four-hour cook at the middle school, effective Aug. 12; Tiffany Conner, three-hour cook at the high school on Mondays and Wednesdays, effective Aug. 12; Shalyn Morr, three-hour cook at the high school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, effective Aug. 12; and Meghan Dawson, bus driver, effective Aug. 15.

—Approved the following resignations: Michael Blevins, custodian, effective July 19, and Troy Snyder, maintenance, effective July 26.

—Approved the retirement of Michelle Taylor, cook, effective July 30.

—Approved the following transfers: Dennis Stahl, custodian from high school to Nashville/Lakeville, effective July 22; Tabitha Hawkins, paraprofessional to head cook at Killbuck, effective Aug. 12; Tracy McCombs, cook to paraprofessional at Killbuck, effective Aug. 12; and Carrie Skolmutch, paraprofessional at Millersburg to Lakeville, effective Aug. 12.

—Approved 20 secretary/aide/cafeteria workers, four custodians, 12 bus drivers, 11 nondegree teachers and one student teacher as substitutes.

—Approved the following as full-time building substitutes: Jennifer Piatt, Millersburg; Daniel Anthony, Killbuck; and Jason Snyder, middle school.

—Approved the following supplemental positions: Ben Belden, high school golf assistant coach; Mark Snowbarger, high school golf volunteer coach; Drew Taylor, high school football volunteer coach (stepped down); Ron Hay, middle school football assistant coach; and Luke Ogi, middle school football assistant coach.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 16 at West Holmes High School.
