Austin-Bailey approves grants, scholarships
                        

The trustees of the Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation have approved grants and scholarships totaling $219,400 to 14 nonprofit organizations. The foundation supports programs that promote the physical and mental well-being of the people residing in Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.

The foundation also provides $43,000 in scholarships to students engaged in health-related studies at Aultman College, Kent State Stark, Kent State Tuscarawas, Malone University, Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, Stark State College, University of Akron Wayne College, University of Mount Union and Walsh University.

Those receiving grants include the following:

—Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman: $7,700 for grab bars in each room in its new assisted living center.

—Aunt Susie’s Cancer Wellness Center in Canton: $10,000 for food assistance for cancer patients.

—CommQuest Services in Canton: $8,700 for equipment for the women’s fitness center.

—Compassion Delivered in North Canton: $5,000 for meals delivered to the homes of those coping with life-threatening or terminal diseases.

—Creston Community Church in Creston: $2,000 for two freezers for its food pantry ministry.

—LifeAct in Chagrin Falls: $10,000 for suicide-prevention programs for students in Stark and Wayne counties.

—Michael’s World in Alliance: $5,000 for clothing for children in need.

—Pegasus Farm in Hartville: $35,000 for therapeutic equestrian services and replacement of fencing.

—Pomerene Hospital in Millersburg: $10,000 for the lactation home visiting program.

—SAM Center in Massillon: $20,000 for the veterans music therapy program.

—Stark State College Foundation in Canton: $25,400 to upgrade dental clinic equipment.

—Tuscarawas County Council in New Philadelphia: $5,000 for adoption placement bags.

—University of Mount Union in Alliance: $30,000 for patient monitoring units.

—Wooster Christian School in Wooster: $2,600 for Stop the Bleed trauma training.

The foundation has two grant cycles each year and welcomes grant requests that are health and wellness related. It is suggested nonprofit organizations call the foundation office first to discuss their project or program. The deadline for submitting grants for the next cycle is Nov. 19.
