The blood-screening event scheduled in March by two area civic clubs has been postponed until further notice due to a global shortage in blood-collection tubes.

The spring community health check hosted by the New Philadelphia Rotary Club and the Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club originally scheduled for March 12 has been postponed until further notice.

An international shortage in the availability and supply of blood-collection tubes used for the event by Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital has produced the schedule change. The shortage has been caused by high COVID volume globally and supply-chain challenges, and the federal government has asked all providers to conserve the use of blood-collection tubes.

A new date for the event has not yet been announced, but club officials are hopeful to reschedule it in several weeks. The clubs have been contacting all registrants to inform them of the postponement and to assure they will be notified of any updates. The appointment times for registrants will be saved and used for a rescheduled event date.

The blood-screening event covers a range of health indicators at a discounted price and is offered as part of a fundraising project to support the many community programs of the two clubs.
