Bolivar Village Council holds special meeting
Bolivar Village Council met in a special session April 17 to address an opening in the police department and other operations.
Council accepted the resignation of Police Chief Randy Haugh, effective April 25. Haugh has served as chief for 18 years and has worked in law enforcement for 25 years. He has accepted the position of police chief in Strasburg.
Council appointed Randy O’Connor, a former part-time Bolivar police officer, as part-time interim police chief for the next six weeks. O’Connor is currently a sergeant with the Waynesburg Police Department and qualifies for the Bolivar chief’s position. He will receive $26 per hour, effective April 26, and is expected to work fewer than 32 hours per week.
Later during the meeting, Mayor Robert Lloyd administered the oath of office to Interim Police Chief O’Connor.
Haugh briefed council on the qualifications and certifications needed for hiring a new police chief. He also informed council of the resignation of patrolman Michael Frame.
Council is currently seeking applications for the police chief position, offering a pay rate between $26 and $30 per hour.
The next regular council meeting is scheduled for May 1 at 7 p.m. at 121 Canal St., Bolivar.
