calls for the cleanup of Port Washington
At the Nov. 5 meeting of Port Washington Village Council, council member Nate Penrod called for the police department to do a sweep of the village and distribute 10-day cleanup trash and junk vehicle notices. Mayor Tom Gardner and Village Solicitor Mark Perlaky said they would instruct Police Chief Rocky Dusenberry to move forward on enforcing the village ordinances for trash and junk vehicles.
Reports to council
Gardner started a discussion about installing Christmas streetlight displays. Council member Brandi Bourne volunteered to check all the displays before installation, which will be near the end of November.
Gardner said he is contacting Salem Township Trustees to establish a date for removing dead trees from the cemetery. Gardner and Joe Bourne also expressed gratitude to the Delaware Fire Department for patrolling the streets in their fire trucks during trick or treat.
Council President Joe Bourne reported there were four fire calls during the month of October, which included an appliance fire, two auto accidents and a call for assistance to Liberty Community Volunteer Fire Department in Kimbolton.
Council heard council member John Little has met with public safety committee chairman Steve Adams to begin the process of winterizing Belden Park.
Brandie Borne asked council to approve the removal of a cherry tree this fall by the Salem Township building. Council did not object but did indicate the dead trees in the cemetery are the first priority for removable.
Port Washington Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Village Hall. All meetings are open to the public.
