The Tuscarawas County Health Department and the Tuscarawas County Humane Society will sponsor rabies immunization clinics. Their first clinic will be held on Saturday, June 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tuscarawas County Fairgrounds, 259 S. Tuscarawas Ave., Dover. The second clinic will be held on Saturday, June 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McCluskey Park, 19 Welch St., Dennison.

All dogs and cats in Tuscarawas County are required to be vaccinated against rabies and are required to wear their rabies tag.

The clinics will cost $10 per vaccination (cash only). They will be walk-in clinics. All dogs and cats must be on a leash or in an animal carrier. Pets between 3 months and 1 year of age will receive a one-year rabies tag. Pets over 1 year old with proof of a prior rabies vaccination will receive a three-year rabies tag.

Proof of prior vaccination includes one of the following: a rabies vaccination certificate or a Tuscarawas County rabies tag. If unable to provide proof of a prior vaccination, one's pet will receive a one-year rabies tag.

Bring prior rabies vaccination certificates and/or rabies tags to the clinic to verify vaccination.

Ferrets are no longer able to be vaccinated at these clinics.

This is a low-cost clinic that does not include a physical examination of the animal.

Before the veterinarian administers the vaccine, participants will need to notify the veterinary staff if one's pet has had a previous vaccine reaction.

Before leaving the vaccination clinic, participants should notify the veterinary staff if their pet has trouble breathing, vomits, has diarrhea, begins to scratch excessively or develops any change in behavior that is concerning.

The veterinary staff reserves the right not to vaccinate any animal in the event that the animal does not appear to be in good health or for medical reasons.

If one's pet becomes sick after leaving the clinic, contact a local veterinarian for help.
