Knights of Columbus Council 1973 at St. Joseph Catholic Church celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special dinner on June 11 with more than 100 members, spouses and friends, and special guests attending.

The council was founded June 1, 1919, and now has 205 members, making it one of the largest councils in Ohio.

Tony Nasuta, Grand Knight of Council 1973, and David Kopp, 100th anniversary committee chair, made formal remarks to attendees before the dinner.

The council has sponsored sports teams, supported St. Joseph Church and Central Catholic elementary and high schools, and provided financial assistance to St. John’s Villa, Starlight School, Lafayette Meadows and Mercy Ministries, among other organizations.

A highlight of the celebration was the award of a $1,000 scholarship in honor of the 100th anniversary from the Dover Knights of Columbus to Anthony Giammo, a 2019 graduate of Dover High School for academic, athletic and extracurricular achievements. Anthony is a member of St. Joseph Parish and plans to attend Case Western Reserve University in the fall.

Knight James Meese also was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions in strengthening the council in his five decades of service.

“We are an active and strong council and hope our founders are proud of all that has been accomplished in the last century," Nasuta said. “We look to the youth of today and beyond to guide us through the next 100 years.”
