Dykstra piano students earn superior ratings
Each March several hundred precollege musicians from several adjoining Ohio counties including Wayne County assemble at the Kent State University music building in Kent to participate in the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs District 1-C Junior Festival.
Thirteen of Brian Dykstra’s precollege piano students took part in this festival, and all of them earned the top rating of superior. The students are Luca Beltran of Wooster; Naomi Bos of Wooster; Hannah Himes, Isaac Himes, Miriam Himes and Naomi Himes, all of Kidron; Rosalind Holt-Frank of Wooster; Max Miyashita and Sarah Miyashita of Orrville; and Faye Moledina, Henry Pozefsky, Minnie Pozefsky and Liam van Doorn, all of Wooster.
Bos, Miriam Himes and Sarah Miyashita earned gold cup trophies for three years of participation in which they earned superior ratings while Max Miyashita earned a slightly larger gold cup trophy for six years of superior ratings.
Dykstra, a graduate of The Juilliard and Eastman Schools of Music, taught for 51 years in the department of music of The College of Wooster. Since fully retiring from the college, he has continued to teach precollege students in Wooster.
