Early voting for Aug. 8 election underway
Early voting for the Aug. 8 special election is now underway in Wayne County.
Early vote center hours are as follows:
—July 17-21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
—July 24-28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
—July 31 from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
—Aug. 1 from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
—Aug. 2-4 from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
—Aug. 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
—Aug. 6 from 1-5 p.m.
Applications are now being accepted for ballots by mail. The deadline to request a ballot by mail is 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1. These ballots began being mailed out on July 11. Applications are available online at www.ohiosos.gov/elections/voters/absentee-ballot/ or at the Wayne County Board of Elections, 200 Vanover St., Wooster. Applications must be on an Ohio Secretary of State approved form.
Ballots returned by mail require postage and must be postmarked no later than Aug. 7 and received by Aug. 12 in order to be eligible for counting.
Ballots may be returned in person no later than 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 8. Ballots can be placed in the drop box or brought into the board of elections office through 7:30 p.m. on election night, Aug. 8. Other than mailing in, this is the only location to drop off. Mail-in ballots will not be accepted at polling locations on election day.
The only drop box is available 24/7 at 200 Vanover St. outside the board of elections offices and is under video surveillance. A family member may drop off a ballot. The election officials manual defines family member as follows: spouse, domestic partner, mother, father, step-mother, step-father, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother, sister, step-brother, step-sister, half-brother, half-sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandmother, grandfather, aunt, uncle, child, step-child, son-in-law, daughter-in-law or other family member living in the same household.
"We would like to thank all of our poll workers, returning and new, other election officials and our polling locations for their efforts to make the Aug. 8 special election happen in Wayne County," Wayne County Board of Elections Director Julie Leathers Stahl said.
