Dr. Randi Pokladnik, a retired but active research chemist and writer, will present a program titled Effects of Plastics and Microplastics in Our Bodies and the Environment on Earth Day — Saturday, April 22 — at 1 p.m. in the community room of the Dover Public Library. In addition to giving a brief history of plastics and how they are made, she will explain the environmental and health effects plastics have on humans and the planet.

“We are very fortunate,” said Sherrel Rieger, programming specialist at the library, “to have Dr. Pokladnik share valuable information about plastics and how they are impacting our lives and our environment.”

Pokladnik was born and raised in the Ohio Valley. She earned an associate degree in environmental engineering, a BA in Chemistry, and an MA and Ph.D. in Environmental Studies. She is a retired research chemist and teacher. She is an active writer, a volunteer for Citizens Climate Lobby, a volunteer teacher for Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action and is a climate reality leader. She has received several environmental awards.

Pokladnik resides with her husband in an eco-log home they built using sustainable building and design practices.
