In a display of perseverance, outdoor adventure and spiritual growth, Trail Life Troop OH-2456 completed a six-day, 326-mile biking expedition from Cincinnati to Cleveland along the Ohio to Erie Trail.

The boys and leaders of Troop OH-2456, based out of Nashville Church of Christ in Big Prairie, began their journey in Cincinnati on Saturday, May 31 and pedaled their way northward, traversing scenic bike paths, historic towns and rolling countryside. Along the route they embraced a minimalist camping experience, spending their nights in tents at a variety of locations including local churches, designated public campsites and locally at the Glenmont Park.

This expedition was the culmination of a year of planning, preparation and physical training. The boys organized routes, studying trail conditions, learning bike maintenance and gradually building up endurance through local training rides. Their dedication paid off as they faced daily distances of 40-60 miles per day, weather changes and physical strain.

“This was more than just a bike ride; it was a test of character and a celebration of brotherhood,” Troop Master Brad Dodson said. “There is an amazing bond that happens when men, specifically fathers and sons, tackle a challenge together.”

The Ohio to Erie Trail connects the Ohio River to Lake Erie, providing a largely off-road route that weaves through forests, farmland and urban centers.

Throughout the journey, the troop anchored their hearts and minds in their chosen theme, I Corinthians 16:13: “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” This scripture served as a daily reminder of their calling to live boldly in faith and to lean on one another through both physical and spiritual trials.

Daily devotionals and prayer times grounded each day’s ride, reinforcing Trail Life’s mission to guide boys in becoming godly men through adventure and service. For many of the boys, the trip offered a first-time experience of long-distance biking and extended camping.

By the time the troop reached Cleveland and dipped their tires in Lake Erie, there was a sense of accomplishment among the group.

Trail Life Troop OH‑2456, based at Nashville Church of Christ in Big Prairie, is a local chapter of Trail Life USA. The troop meets weekly throughout the school year and participates in summer adventures. It serves boys from kindergarten through high school, helping them grow through outdoor experiences, biblical character-building and community service. Boys progress through age-based trails, earn badges, take on leadership roles and deepen their faith.
