Fall Fest at Brodhaven Farm includes horse-related fun
This Old Horse Sanctuary, a local nonprofit organization, will host a Fall Fest event on Sunday, Oct. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at Brodhaven Farm, 449 Fox Lake Road, Wooster. The fall event is an opportunity for kids and adults alike to participate in some horse and fall-related outdoor activities while also supporting a good cause.
The event will feature horse-drawn carriage rides (weather permitting) and pony rides. Kids will have an opportunity to meet a variety of horses housed at the farm, and some horses will be available so kids and interested adults can learn how to groom a horse.
A stick horse rodeo will run at different points during the day. For those unfamiliar with such an event, each participant will be given a stick horse and will then perform a series of maneuvers on the stick horse around various obstacles on an event course. The participant with the fastest time within each age group through the course will win a prize.
There also will be games including a rubber horse ring toss, a pumpkin-decorating contest and face painting. Participants can purchase tickets for each activity for $1 each, with one to three tickets used per activity. There will be snacks donated by Cabin Cakes by Abby, and Fox Lake Farm Miniature Horses is donating apple cider, hot chocolate and bottled water. As the event is designed to raise money to support the nonprofit horse sanctuary at the farm, donations for refreshments are accepted and encouraged.
Dress appropriately for the weather and for being outside and in a barn around animals. Closed-toe outdoor shoes should be worn around the horses at all times. Check the organization’s Facebook page on the day of the event for any last-minute information or changes. Some of the activities are weather dependent.
This Old Horse Sanctuary was established in 2023 to take in and care for horses when a horse is unwanted due to age, injury or both or where a horse is wanted but the owner is no longer able to care for the horse given the horse’s needs and the owner’s budget. The organization operates on a nonprofit, charitable basis. As a charitable organization, the sanctuary can accept monetary and noncash donations toward the costs of feed and hay, veterinary services, and other necessary costs to not only meet the basic needs of these horses, but also give them a chance to thrive.
Fall Fest is designed to help raise funds for the upkeep of the horses. For more information on how to help horses like the ones at the sanctuary, email the organization at thisoldhorsesanctuary@gmail.com or follow the organization on TikTok at TOHS@Brodhaven or Facebook at This Old Horse Sanctuary.
