Guest speaker for the Tuscarawas County Art Guild’s August meeting was Samantha White of New Philadelphia, who is the community outreach director at New Dawn Retirement Community.

White studied at Muskingum University. She provided the necessities and directions for the guild members to create marbling paper for card creations. The “tools” included shaving cream, food coloring, blank recipe cards and rubber gloves. The mixture was transferred to the blank card and scraped over with another card. The results were a very colorful, swirling design.

Keeping with the guild’s monthly Show & Tell session, members were asked to bring something related to the upcoming Tuscarawas County Fair. Joe Willis painted a corn dog; Patsy McGrath created a collage with pumpkins, a pig and a grange sign; Karen Gazdik shared a painting of a cow in a field; and Jane Gartrell brought her painting of the Reeves Home, which won Best of Show in the 1990 art display in the county fair’s Fine Art category.

Levi Keim of Beach City won two awards at the recent Salt Fork Art Fest. President Bill Koch announced the guild’s fine art display at New Towne Mall will be replaced with new paintings.

There is an outdoor festival scheduled for Sept. 29 at New Dawn Retirement Community, sponsored by the Art Guild, to fund the Art Scholarship Awards. The event will feature raffles, door prizes, art and craft vendors, musical entertainment, and refreshments and will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Art work for the upcoming November Fine Art Show must be submitted by Nov. 2 at the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts.
